Springdale, Arkansas – Start Date: June 8, 2026 – End Date: June 22, 2026

Description:

In an effort to improve service, Springdale Water Utilities will be performing sanitary
sewer system improvements in the S. Gutensohn Road and W. Sunset Avenue
intersection, which will also affect traffic patterns for businesses in neighboring areas.
Construction for sanitary sewer improvements necessitates a roadway closure for a
portion of S. Gutensohn Road and one lane of W. Sunset Avenue (Highway 412)
beginning the second week of June 2026. The construction period is anticipated to last
approximately 10 business days, weather dependent.
Seven Valleys Construction has been contracted to perform the sanitary sewer

WWTF Upgrades

Springdale Water Utilities (SWU) partnered with Garver to implement a multi-phase improvement plan to upgrade at the Springdale Wastewater Treatment Facility. Phase I includes construction of several new facilities to meet an increased targeted capacity and treatment criteria that was outlined in a peak flow study completed in 2019. The Phase I improvements, currently underway, include increasing the design and peak flow pumping capacity, two new 150-foot diameter final clarifiers, rehabilitation of the four existing and aged 120-foot final clarifiers, new mixed liquor splitter box, RAS/WAS pumping upgrades, effluent flow measurement improvements, water reuse improvements, electrical improvements, additional backup power, and SCADA improvements for monitoring and control.

Bids were received in the summer of 2022. Crossland Heavy Contractors submitted the low bid in the amount of approximately $51.4 million. With Garver’s option of probable construction at approximately $54.4 million, this represents a good value for SWU. SWU, Garver and Crossland Heavy have already value engineered approximately $2 million in savings. In addition, SWU has secured an ARPA grant in the amount of $5 million to further reduce the impact to ratepayers. Construction is schedule to be complete in late 2024.
